The Brandywine Plains
The Brandywine Plains are a large, flat, fertile stretch of land broken by meandering rivers and small forests that radiates for about three-hundred miles around the largest city and nominal ruler of the Plains, the City-State Shard. This area is known for the remarkable peace that has lasted for over fifty years. In that time, the plains have thrived, generally free of attacks from either other realms or by barbarian hordes and raiders. In this peace, the villages and small towns that dot the landscape have grown, if not wealthy, then comfortable. Trade bustles, with Shard serving as the central hub for the rich variety of harvests produced by the many farmers that inhabit the Plains.
Archeological study of the Plains has generally been minimal. Historical study and expeditions have indicated that this area, at one time, was part of an long-ago Goblin kingdom, though the Goblins were most centered in the hills to the north of the Plains. Evidence of prior masonry also exists in remote corners of the plains, not all of which bears the markers of Goblin construction. However, very little study has gone on in studying these ruins, and the plains did not give evidence of current inhabitants when Shard was founded several hundred years ago.
