A small farming community about two day’s ride to the northwest of Shard, Clearwyn is generally wholly unremarkable. As a village, it is a cluster of a few buildings housing a blacksmith, a stable, a general goods store, a meeting hall and that serves a temple to Pelor in his aspect as the God of Agriculture – as well as the home of the shaman who offers daily prayers and intercessions to the god for his continued benevolence.
Clearwyn was the site of an unusual invasion of dog-sized rats, aggressive and vicious creatures that killed one villager and crippled an adventurer who had come to take care of the problem. The rats began eating through the village’s grain store, and entreaties for intervention by the Lord’s Guards had fallen on deaf ears. A party of adventurers from nearby Shard cleared the rats from the village. Stories also say that the adventurers then discovered goblins in a nearby cave who were the source of the rats and defeated them as well. Some dismiss this last detail as fantastic exaggeration, as no goblin raids have occured so close to Shard in generations.
